Medicaid statistics are usually made in order to see how many people are covered by the Medicaid program and how much money have been paid for these people’s medical care. We all know that the Medicaid health insurance is for people who have a low income, for people with disabilities and for children who come from families with a low income.
Medicaid statistics are some reports that Medicaid makes each year in order to see how much money they spend for the medical care of the people with a low income and which are the categories that need most of the money.
Medicaid statistics have shown that only certain categories of peoples have been approved by the Medicaid program: here we refer to old people, people with certain disabilities, pregnant women, blind people. Medicaid statistics have also shown that lately, the program has paid the insurance for people who live in a nursing home and especially for all the disabled children who live at home. Nowadays there is a huge problem regarding children with disabilities which are not taken to special care centers. Their parents want to keep them at home, because they believe that they can have a better care of them or because they have a lot of financial advantages due to their child’s illness.
When it comes to all the payments that Medicaid makes and all the people for which it pays, Medicaid statistics show that:
- Medicaid provides health care coverage for about 52 million people who have a low income or who have certain disabilities:
- they provide low-cost health coverage for about 39 million people who have a low income
- they provide long-term care and acute care coverage for old people and people with disabilities – here we refer to about 13 million
- Medicaid covers state and federal expenditures of about $300 billion— the government funding is about 57%
- Medicaid pays for almost 1 in 5 health-care dollars and it also pays for almost 1 in 2 nursing home dollars
Medicaid statistics show that Medicaid pays for:
- 40% of the people for which Medicaid pays are poor;
- 21% of them are near – poor;
- 26% of all the children have a Medicaid insurance;
- 50% of the low income children;
- 19% of the low income adults;
- 37% of the pregnant women;
- 20% of the people with severe disabilities;
- 44% of the people who are living with AIDS;
- 60% of the nursing home residents;
The Medicaid statistics also show that a great part of the pregnant women have a Medicaid insurance because it helps them pay for all the services that they need in order to have some healthy children. Most of the pregnant women do not have a high income in order to be able to offer to their children everything that they need. This is why they apply for this program.

Medicaid statistics show that nowadays, people have a lot of financial problems and sometimes they cannot afford to pay for their medical needs or for an expensive medical insurance and this is why they usually apply for Medicaid. If they are lucky, they are eligible too and they can benefit from the services that Medicaid provides.
